City of Minneapolis issued the following announcement on Dec. 5.
Dec. 10 is Human Rights Day. In recognition of the 72nd anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly, a virtual panel discussion will focus on human rights challenges faced here in our communities from the death of George Floyd to the disproportionate health, economic and social impacts of COVID-19.
The panel will discuss how we squarely face our own human rights record and commit to actionable steps as our communities process the traumas of 2020. Panelists leading the conversation will include:
- Valerie Jensen, director of the Department of Human Rights and Economic Inclusion, City of Saint Paul.
- Amy Bergquist, senior staff attorney of Advocates for Human Rights, and member of the Minneapolis Civil Rights Commission.
On Friday, Dec. 4, the City Council will vote on a resolution recognizing Dec. 10 as Human Rights Day, and Dec. 10 the 35W Bridge will light up in blue and white to recognize Human Rights Day.
