A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for fentanyl trafficking. Kristopher Raphael Owens, 31, received the sentence of 144 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl pills. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Andrew M. Luger.

Court documents reveal that on November 28, 2022, Owens was driving a gold Chevy Tahoe in Minneapolis when he was stopped by law enforcement. Owens fled on foot as officers approached but was apprehended in a nearby yard and arrested. Officers found $1,286 on him and discovered two Ziploc baggies containing 1,874 blue pills along his escape route. Tests confirmed the pills contained fentanyl, and Owens admitted they were his with the intention to distribute them.

Owens pleaded guilty on March 13, 2024, to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl. His sentencing took place yesterday in U.S. District Court before Judge Joan N. Ericksen.

The case stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Minneapolis Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Assistant U.S. Attorney David P. Steinkamp prosecuted the case.
