Nearly a week has passed since Gov. Tim Walz signed an executive order to place all of Minnesota under a stay-at-home mandate.
Per the order, residents are not to venture from their homes unless to purchase groceries, seek medical attention or report to work if they are essential employees. Most businesses – with the exception of grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, and hospitals – are forced to shutter.
Public playgrounds and the river trails in Minneapolis are ordered closed as well.
A downtown Minneapolis resident expressed his disappointment over the closure of a river trail he usually frequents to WCCO but believes “it’s a good plan to do it.”
Residents can still go outside and exercise so as long as they practice social distancing, or allowing six feet of space between them and other people.
Anyone who violates the order can be assessed a fine, but according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, police are taking an educational approach first when dispersing large groups.
