Welcoming Afghan evacuees: online presentation May 19

The Minneapolis Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs invites you to a presentation on Afghan resettlement to Minnesota. More than 1,250 people from Afghanistan have resettled to Minnesota since September 2021, with many finding homes here in Minneapolis.

Community-led and refugee resettlement organization partners and State and City employees involved in welcoming efforts will provide an overview of this unprecedented resettlement effort. They’ll share how they’re involved in helping Afghan community members begin a new chapter of their lives in our state and city, and they’ll identify critical areas where support is needed and how to be involved.

This program offers insights from an incredibly quick and large-scale resettlement effort, and lessons to help prepare for future resettlement initiatives. There will be time set aside for questions from the audience.
