Senators Amy Klobuchar and Lisa Blunt Rochester, alongside Governors Laura Kelly, Andy Beshear, Maura Healey, and Matt Meyer, voiced their concerns over the Republican-proposed "Big Beautiful Betrayal" bill at a press conference. The bill is expected to impact food assistance programs like SNAP, potentially affecting millions of Americans including seniors, children, and veterans.

Senator Klobuchar stated that the bill could increase grocery costs and hunger while shifting billions in SNAP costs to states. She emphasized that only a few Republicans need to oppose the bill for it to be halted.

Governor Laura Kelly highlighted that SNAP supports nearly 190,000 Kansans and warned of the economic repercussions if the legislation passes. She noted that both red and blue states would face adverse effects.

Governor Andy Beshear criticized the bill as harmful and ineffective. He argued that it would add significantly to national debt and strain state budgets.

Governor Maura Healey pointed out SNAP's role in promoting economic mobility in Massachusetts. She urged Congress to reject cuts that could lead to increased hunger among vulnerable populations.

Governor Matt Meyer expressed concern for Delaware's residents who rely on food assistance. He described the proposed cuts as morally wrong and called for prioritizing compassion over fiscal reductions.

The Democratic leaders collectively urged Congressional Republicans to reconsider the proposed changes to food assistance programs. They stressed the potential negative impacts on both individuals' lives and state economies.
