Ramsey County man pleads guilty to firearm possession and carjacking

A man from Ramsey County has admitted guilt to charges of illegal firearm possession and carjacking, as announced by U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger.

Court documents reveal that on June 30, 2022, Ricardo Rydell Walker, Jr., aged 21, forcibly took a black 2021 Toyota Highlander using threats of violence and harm. Walker and accomplices confronted Victim A while they were heading from their vehicle to an apartment building. They tripped the victim during an attempted escape and Walker struck the victim's head with a handgun.

Walker was apprehended six days later in Maplewood, Minnesota, in a stolen vehicle while carrying a Springfield Hellcat 9mm.

Walker entered his guilty plea in U.S. District Court to one count of carjacking. He also confessed to assisting in the carjackings of several vehicles including a black 2019 Volkswagen Atlas, a gray 2015 Mazda 3, and a gray Nissan Rogue on June 24, 2024. In each incident, Walker and others used firearms to intimidate victims.

Additionally, Walker pleaded guilty to receiving a firearm while under indictment for a felony charge. Judge Katherine M. Menendez arraigned him today in U.S. District Court.

The investigation was carried out by multiple law enforcement agencies including the St. Paul Police Department, Minneapolis Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, Ramsey County Sheriff's Office with support from the FBI.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys William C. Mattessich and Mary Riverso are handling the prosecution of this case.
