The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) is set to unveil its latest exhibition, “रातराणी: The Night Blooming Jasmine,” by artist Roshan Ganu. This immersive exhibition will be open from November 23, 2024, through February 23, 2025, in Mia’s U.S. Bank Gallery. Part of the Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program (MAEP), the showcase highlights innovative work by Minnesota artists.
Roshan Ganu transforms a 2,500-square-foot gallery into a captivating nighttime environment. Visitors can expect an array of immersive films projected onto various surfaces, accompanied by three paintings and ceramic figures inspired by Goa, India. Her work draws on mythology to reimagine the tale of Narakasura and reclaims nighttime as a period of liberation rather than fear.
“Ganu has an ability to magically transform white box galleries into an ethereal place,” said Nicole E. Soukup, Supervisor of the MAEP. She further added that the experience prompts reflections on personal safety at night for women and encourages contemplation without judgment.
Ganu expressed that her exhibition also explores memories and experiences that comfort loneliness in foreign lands. “They reconnect us to our roots while building a sense of belonging and appreciation for this place—allowing me to spread outward indefinitely,” she noted.
The exhibition invites viewers to find beauty in unfamiliar spaces and reflect on their own journeys through art that blends storytelling with sensory elements.
