WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement after the Hennepin County Attorney's Office filed 10 charges against Derrick Thompson, the suspect accused of killing five young women in a hit and run Friday.
"I am grateful to the Hennepin County Attorney for bringing charges against the suspect in the tragic hit and run killing of the five young women in the 5th District. Their sudden and tragic deaths at the hands of this reckless driver deprived these beautiful souls of everything that life has to offer. I knew many of these girls since they were children, and joined the community for their memorial service this weekend. I have also been in close contact with community and law enforcement leaders to ensure we get justice for their grieving families and sorrowful community so that nobody else has to bear this kind of pain and anguish."
