WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement after the U.S. Army Corps revoked their permit for NorthMet mine.

“This is incredible news and a win for the Fond du Lac Band and for the St. Louis River Watershed,” said Rep. Omar. “I want to thank USACE for their comprehensive review of the permit and their willingness to do the right thing to ensure the Band’s tribal rights are not jeopardized. I also want to thank the Fond du Lac Band for their tireless work to make sure our government followed the science and the law. The United States has a legal and moral obligation to abide by treaties with Tribal governments, and I’m glad this outcome was reached after many hard-fought years. Clean water is vital to the safety of our communities, and I won’t stop fighting to protect our state’s water for generations to come.”
