The City of Minneapolis has lifted a boil water advisory for water customers impacted by a large water main break in north Minneapolis. After extensive testing and approval from the Minnesota Department of Health, the water is now safe to use for all activities of daily living. Testing was performed on water samples from various locations throughout the impacted area.
“We appreciate the patience and resilience of residents who were forced to boil their water for cooking and drinking,” said Public Works Director Margaret Anderson Kelliher. “Losing access to reliable drinking water can be unsettling. I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Public Works staff who worked to stabilize a challenging situation.”
Earlier this week, a water main in north Minneapolis broke, substantially lowering pressures in a nearby area. In response, the City of Minneapolis issued a boil water advisory to those who were impacted. Boil water advisories are a standard precautionary industry practice when sufficient water pressure is lost.
The City has provided bottled water to impacted residents at Farview Park,629 N. 29th Ave., and that distribution will end later this afternoon.
Impacted area
- Third Street North from Lowry Avenue to 26th Avenue.
- Fourth Street North from 29th to 26th Avenue.
