Mayor Jacob Frey and City Council Member Jason Chavez have proclaimed July 16-23 to be Oromo Week in Minneapolis. Tomorrow night, the Interstate 35W and Lowry Avenue bridges over the Mississippi River will glow red, green and red to mark the start of that week.
The proclamation recognizes the growing population of people from the Oromia region of Ethiopia who now call Minnesota home. Most of the estimated 45,000 Oromo people who live in the metro area are refugees and asylees.
Both bridge lightings begin shortly before sunset tomorrow evening.
