The 2022 Heritage Preservation Award was presented at the May 3 City Council meeting to Steve Olson for his personal efforts to preserve Eden Prairie's heritage.
Olson served on the Heritage Preservation Commission for nine years beginning in 2012, acting as commission chair from 2015–2021. A resident of Eden Prairie, he was an outstanding leader who brought a sense of calm and orderliness to commission meetings. His wealth of knowledge about history and historic preservation proved invaluable when sharing ideas, making suggestions and directing the group in their decision-making.
The commission had many successes under Olson's leadership. His work on the commission can be seen throughout the community. The depth of knowledge he gained from his roles as an engineer and preservationist made a profound impact on preservation in Eden Prairie. His contributions will continue to influence residents and visitors to Eden Prairie for many years to come.
The goal of the Heritage Preservation Award is to recognize an individual, family or business who has made an outstanding contribution to the preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and use of Eden Prairie's heritage resources.
Nominations for Heritage Preservation Awards can be made by individuals on behalf of themselves or others. One award is given each year. For the next award process, nomination materials will be available in early 2023.
