The EPPD and National Drug Enforcement Administration are hosting a Drug Take Back Event at the Eden Prairie Senior Center, 8950 Eden Prairie Road, on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Residents can drop off unused or expired prescription or over-the-counter medication for free and the EPPD will safely dispose of them. Just stay in your car and a staff person will grab the bags from you. No sharps, inhalers or illicit substances please!
If you can’t make it to the drop-off and have drugs that you’d like to dispose of in a safe manner, the EPPD has free home medication disposal bags that can be picked up at Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road, Monday–Friday from 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Each bag provides for the disposal of up to 90 pills, 12 ounces of liquid medication or 12 transdermal patches. The bags contain activated carbon which neutralizes the medication and prevents it from contaminating ground and drinking water.
If you have prescription medications at home, be sure to secure them from curious children and pets. You may want to consider purchasing a medicine cabinet with a locking mechanism.
Please note the EPPD does not accept medication drop-offs at our department. Hennepin County has drop box locations to safely dispose of large or small quantities of medication.
