Sgt. Rob Johnston Promoted to Police Department Lieutenant

The EPPD is pleased to announce that Sgt. Rob Johnston has been promoted to lieutenant effective April 23, overseeing the department’s Investigations Division.

Sgt. Johnston began his career as an officer in 1997 working for the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and the Breezy Point Police Department, before coming to Eden Prairie in 2004.

During his tenure with Eden Prairie, Sgt. Johnston has served as a Retail Crime Unit officer, Explorer Post advisor, Mental Health Unit member, Training Unit instructor, Crime Prevention Team member and field training officer. He was promoted to sergeant in 2017 and has supervised the Investigations Division's Liaison Unit since 2019.

Sgt. Johnston earned an associate’s degree from Central Lakes College in Brainerd and is currently working on a bachelor's degree in criminal justice leadership from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.
