New testimony from Minneapolis Police Commander Scott Gerlicher has revealed that Gov. Tim Walz appears to have ignored a request for help from the National Guard weeks ago, according to the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus.
Previous statements by Walz indicated that he had not received a detailed and normal request from the police commander. Gerlicher gave testimony that he submitted a detailed email up the chain of command. No feedback or response was given to Minneapolis Police with regard to this request.
This new development comes on the heels of weeks of looting, protesting and riots in the City of Minneapolis that has resulted in millions of dollars of property damage and mass business closures in the area. The National Guard is being deployed in cities around the country to quell protests and riots for social justice. Walz has been criticized for what many consider to be a slow response to the destruction in Minnesota.
