Minneapolis Public Schools issued the following announcement on July 17.
We are excited to share that Minneapolis Public Schools was selected as a 2020 U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm to School grant awardee! With support from this grant, MPS Culinary & Wellness Services will expand our Farm to School Program by building stronger educational connections between our cafeterias, school gardens, and the new MPS Education Farm at our Culinary Center. The grant will also support our education partnerships with Spark-Y and Pollinate Minnesota. Our work will highlight the #FarmtoSchool “Fabulous Five:” kale, kohlrabi, legumes, radishes, and squash – items that grow well in Minnesota and are already found in MPS cafeterias. Through these efforts, we hope to deepen student understanding of the agricultural food system, the components of healthy eating, and the importance of local foods. Thank you USDA for this opportunity. We look forward to getting to work!
