Hennepin Healthcare issued the following announcement on May 30.
Our CEO, Jennifer DeCubellis, shared this message with our employees and we wanted to share excerpts with our community.
As an organization, we send our condolences to the family and friends of George Floyd. We also join the chorus that wants change. We at Hennepin Healthcare are committed to equity – justice and fairness – toward all people. Racism and discrimination violate our values as an institution and run counter to our work to save lives and improve the health of our community. We all know that racism and discrimination contribute to worse physical and mental health outcomes and we see once again this week that they can be fatal.
As a healthcare system, we are healers at heart and truly believe we are here for life. We will remain vigilant in our efforts to level the field for health equity and improve health outcomes for those we are here to serve.
May George Floyd rest in peace and may our institution and this community redouble our commitment to work against discrimination and continue our pursuit of equity.
