According to the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus (MSRC), the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and local legislative leaders worked with record speed to pass an emergency bill to move $200 million to the state health care system.

Senate File 4334 was passed March 16.

Sen. Bruce Anderson (R-Buffalo) said in a press release that these emergency funds need to be given to the hospitals so they are prepared for whatever the coronavirus brings their way.

“It was important that we appropriate this extra funding to our hospitals so they are prepared for whatever the coronavirus brings,” Anderson said. “There are many unknowns at this time, and we are ready to support the health care industry as they provide services to countless Minnesotans in the coming weeks. We are incredibly thankful for their service to our state.”

Anderson also says the Senate will extend the scheduled Easter recess to protect the public from the coronavirus.

“...We will temporarily pause our legislative work to minimize contact, but we will remain to serve and respond as needed from our home offices,” Anderson said.
