Minneapolis Public Schools issued the following announcement on Jan. 17.
MPS will be closed as of 6 p.m. tonight and all day tomorrow. All district offices, including the Davis Education Center and the Student Placement Services Office, will be closed. Athletic activities are canceled as well, except for participation in Hockey Day MN. Monday is already a no-school day for students, so normal classes and activities should resume on Tuesday.
This decision was made because:
• Forecasts show significant amounts of snow accumulation overnight and into tomorrow morning that are in line with our closure protocols
• Forecasts also show sustained high winds that can impact visibility and safety while traveling
