Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, said Chuck Schumer’s pledge to reverse DOGE cuts if Democrats win in 2026 would restore excessive Washington spending burdening Minnesota with higher regulations, debt, and economic pressures on workers.

“Minnesota was built by people who measured twice and wasted nothing,” said Cortes. “Now Washington wants the 2026 election to reopen a spending binge that floods states with rules debt and excuses. This is the moment for Minnesotans to reclaim order reward work and defend the foundational promise. before the same failed experiment hardens into permanent damage.”

According to a DC Newsline article, Schumer pledged that Democrats would not only reverse DOGE cuts but also increase funding beyond prior levels for programs in transportation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) if they secure midterm victories. Cortes framed this proposal as a threat to Minnesota’s values of efficiency and fiscal caution. He positioned the 2026 election as a crucial opportunity to maintain DOGE’s restraints against renewed expansive government policies. The response emphasized support for policies prioritizing work and order over federal overreach.

Minnesota’s economy is heavily reliant on manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare sectors, which face costs from federal regulations and spending patterns. State GDP growth has slowed to 1.8% in recent quarters amid policy uncertainties. Rural areas dependent on farming and mining experience added burdens from trade and energy shifts linked to past federal initiatives. According to Cortes, DOGE reforms provide relief by reducing bureaucratic layers that previously increased operational expenses for Minnesota businesses.

DOGE has implemented the largest peacetime federal workforce reduction on record, decreasing employment by nine percent through strategic cuts aimed at eliminating redundancies and wasteful programs. These actions target procurement inefficiencies and regulatory overreach while overall spending rises, aiming to curb deficit expansion that reached 23% growth under prior policies. Such measures are intended to support national economic stability by limiting subsidies and border-related expenditures that strain taxpayer resources.

Cortes founded the League of American Workers in 2022 to advocate for policies benefiting American workers and families. He served on President Trump’s Hispanic Advisory Council during the 2016 campaign and as a senior advisor for communications on the National Economic Council. Cortes has contributed commentary to major networks and publications while supporting Republican economic and immigration priorities.
